“Some tourists think Amsterdam is a city of sin, but in truth it is a city of freedom. And in freedom, most people find sin.”

So said John Green talking about the Dutch capital. One of the most beautiful and visited cities in Europe, Amsterdam is famous for its red lights district and its numerous coffee shop authorized for the sale of marijuana and cannabis derivatives.

I have visited it once for now (I predict many more visits in the future) and it stayed in my heart. You can breathe an air of freedom and relaxation that I’ve never felt before, as if I could never be sad in that city. It’s a small town but it is so full of wonders, that’s why I wrote the 5 things to do to fully enjoy Amsterdam!

I couldnΒ΄t leave the coffee shops out of course! There’s really a lot of them around the Dam square, all colorful and with a wide choice of weed. Sometimes it’s really hard to choose, which is why I also wrote an article about the 5 coffee shops in Amsterdam you can’t miss, including one where you can find vegan space muffins!

Dutch fries are famous all over the world, but you can only try the real ones in Amsterdam. Those of Manneken Pis are the most delicious and appreciated chips in the city. Sometimes you can find little tails, but it’s absolutely worth it!

The Openbare Bibliotheek is the central library of Amsterdam. Thanks to its relaxation areas for reading, spaces dedicated to children and the restaurant on the 7th floor, it’s very busy at all times. However, the most beautiful thing about the OBA is that it has a panoramic terrace from which you can enjoy theΒ  city views for free.

4. Explore the suburb

Although the city centre is small, it’s rich in places to visit, such as Madame Tussauds the famous wax museum, coffee shops, restaurants and much more. But while the centre is full of tourists and confusion, the suburb of the city is quiet and charming. Picturesque houses overlooking the canals, parks and the unfailing bicycles accompanied by an atmosphere of absolute serenity, make the suburb the perfect place to walk.

5. Ride a bike around the town

The means of transport in Amsterdam are very efficient and comfortable, but if you really want to get into the spirit of the city then you need to rent a bike. The services that rent bicycles are very common in Amsterdam and the whole city is well equipped with cycle paths.
